Thanks to the Barron family for kindly sharing this poignant photograph with us. |
There are a number of officers from the 7th Battalion Border Regiment in Louis Barron’s photo.
Here is what I have found out about them:
- Second-Lieutenant W.I. McKeand (transport officer) Address: 41B Speneer Park, Wandsworth Common, S.W.18. He received the Military Cross. No mention of his death in the MIC.
- A. Gordon - Went on the the Tank Corps - His mother’s address was Fairholm, Langley Ave, Surbiton, Surrey. No reference to death is mentioned on MIC
- T.D. Noble - address 194 Braid St Edinburgh. No mention of death on MIC
- A. H. Crompton - Arthur Harold- Killed in Action 3/7/ 1916. Medals forwarded to mother, Mrs W.H. Crompton (Her own name was Martha) Address: Emlgarth, Shap, Westmorland.
- T.D. Swan - 45 Crediton Hill, Hampstead, NW6. No record of his death and electoral records show that a Thomas M. Hill was living at the same address in 1957, with his wife Sybill and Annette Swan. He married in Devon, in 1920.
- Louis Barron - Died 19th July, 1916.
Out of the six named men in the photo of the 7th Battalion, two of them died, just two weeks apart from each other.
