Leo Le Bas was born in Dublin on 7th October 1895 and was a pupil in The High School Dublin from 1910 until 1911.  He had two other brothers, Albert and Samuel, both of whom also fought in the Great War. Only Samuel survived.  

The South Irish Horse War Diaries from the day Leo died states: 

'Report of O/C Cyclists that no 1068 Pte LARKIN F., 1073 Pte LE BAS H, 1144 Pte SADLIER WA were killed in action on night of 22/23 by direct hit of HE on the Catapult they were fixing up to fire'.
