Sgt. Richard Sealy Swan died 15th August 1916

Sgt Richard Sealy Swan. 7th Batt Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Son of the late Thomas Swan, Esq. And Mrs EF Swan, 3 Winslow Terrace, Terenure Road, Dublin. Educated at the High School, Dublin, and entered the service of the Bank of Ireland College Green in May, 1897.

He enlisted in the 7th Batt (Pals) Dublin Fusiliers in September, 1914 and left England for active service with the Mediterranean Forces in July, 1915. He took part in the landing at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli, and subsequent severe fighting on the peninsula. He was afterwards promoted Sergeant, and was transferred with his battalion to Salonica, where he was invalided with malaria, and died at No.28 General Hospital, Salonica, on 15th August, 1916.
He was one of the 16 members of the Bank of Ireland who lost their lives in the war. He is buried in Salonika (Lembet Road) Military Cemetery Greece. Grave No.312.

Ireland’s Roll of Honour. September 2, 1916. Sergeant Richard Sealy Swan, Royal Dublin Fusiliers, whose death is announced in hospital, on August 15th, from illness contracted on active service, was the second son of the late T.E., and Mrs Emily F Swan, of Dublin. He was formerly employed in the Secretary’s Office of the Bank of Ireland, College Green, Dublin.  Buried 312 Salonika ( Lembet Road ) Military Cemetery in Greece.
